Having weathered the storms of a temperamental driver, Rory McIlroy has more enthusiasm than most about the forecast of strong winds at Sawgrass this weekend. The gusts are expected to reach around 30mph across the final two rounds at the Players Championship, which carries the prospect of giving this course some much-needed bite. So far, it has been ripe for the plundering, as shown by McIlroy reaching nine under par after following his opening 67 with a 68 on Friday, leaving him two off the lead.
