Defeat to a Josh Inglis-inspired Australia has not only jeopardised England's chances of progressing in this Champions Trophy but further threatened their automatic qualification for the next World Cup. The five-wicket humbling by their Ashes rivals was the 17th for Jos Buttler's team since the start of a wretched one-day title defence in India 16 months ago - more than any other nation in that period. It places extra importance on Wednesday's Group B fixture against Afghanistan, a match that will almost certainly see England eliminated if the run continues.
