He thought he'd be pocketing a tidy cheque for £three,250 on behalf of the horse's house owners, only to go away empty-handed.
The trainer wrote after the race: "Absolutely gutted for his large group of householders here however Crossbeau ran an excellent race for his new house owners and we know we're onto a winner!"
He confirmed each horse and jockey have been OK… and even that Crossbeau was none the wiser after his depature.
Vaughan posted a photo of the horse wanting pleased for himself strolling together with his groom, alongside the caption: "Assume he thinks he gained now!"
