It would have been the first franchise title for the Atlanta Dream as well, just months after they traded for Reese ahead of the 2026 season.
Reese and the Dream, however, failed to overcome the Golden State Valkyries. They forced the first Game 7 in WNBA history, but Atlanta ultimately fell short.
Reese was Atlanta's driving force. She averaged a career-high 16.4 points on 45.1% shooting during the regular season. The 6-foot-4 forward also put up 12.1 rebounds, 2.8 assists and 1.8 steals in 31.0 minutes per game. She was named an All-Star for a third straight season and earned Defensive Player of the Year honors.
One of Reese's teammates who helped her along the way was rookie Madina Okot. On Tuesday, the 6-foot-6 center took to social media to send a parting message for the 2026 season.
"Year 1 ✅ grateful!" she wrote, sharing some of her favorite photos from her debut campaign.
Reese was among the Dream players who showed her support for the rookie.
"proud of you! love you always ♥️" Reese wrote.
Okot, the 13th overall pick of the 2026 WNBA Draft, was a key rotation piece for Dream head coach Karl Smesko. She averaged 5.4 points and 3.3 rebounds in 9.1 minutes across 42 regular-season games.
Both Reese and Okot remain under contract with the Dream. They are both expected to return to Atlanta for the 2027 season.
