Blending belly laughs with the kind of heart-wrenching reality that made viewers feel like part of the team, the show followed the doctors and support staff of the 4077th Mobile Army Surgical Hospital (hence the titular acronym) based in South Korea during the Korean War.

For 11 seasons, audiences tuned in and made it one of the highest-rated shows in television history — even up until its series finale in 1983, which remains the most-watched finale and episode of a scripted TV series of all time.

Alan Alda's 3 Children

Alda, who won two Emmys for Outstanding Lead Actor in a Comedy Series for playing surgeon Captain Benjamin Franklin "Hawkeye" Pierce forM*A*S*H's entire run, shares three children with his longtime wife,Arlene.

The couple, who married in 1957 and are still together nearly 70 years later, are parents to three daughters: Eve, Elizabeth and Beatrice.

Speaking to PEOPLE in 1975, Alda discussed the crossover between his personal and professional lives, specifically on the sitcomWe'll Get By, and how he drew inspiration from his family and included some of their real-life stories in the script.

"It's an attempt to show a family living the way people really do live — and not as they do on television," he said at the time. "Once I was watching a tape of the show at home in which there was an argument between mother and daughter. I turned around and my wife and one of my daughters were having exactly the same argument."

Jamie Farr's 2 Children

Farr, who played Corporal Maxwell Klinger forM*A*S*H's entire run, married wife Joy Ann Richards in 1963.

The couple have welcome two children: a son, Jonas, and a daughter, Yvonne, seemingly named after Farr's older sister.

William Christopher's 2 Children

Christopher, who played Father John Patrick Francis Mulcahy onM*A*S*H, was the father of two.

He and wife Barbara raised two sons, John and Ned. The couple were married for decades until Christopher'sdeathin 2016 at the age of 84.

At the time, John revealed that his father died from non-small cell lung carcinoma at his home in Pasadena, Calif.

Wayne Rogers' 2 Children

Rogers, who played surgeon Captain Trapper John McIntyre onM*A*S*H, was a father of two. According to theLos Angeles Times, he shared a son, Bill, and a daughter, Laura, with his first wife, Mitzi McWhorter. The actor, who died in 2015, later wed his second wife, Amy.

In an interview with thePrinceton Alumni Weekly, Bill called his dad a "fearless" businessman. Rogers was a notable investor and money manager who frequently appeared on Fox News'Cashin' In.

"Even as he got older, he would call at all hours to talk about business deals we were working on," Bill added. "He was a guy who lived every moment to the fullest, relentlessly."

McLean Stevenson's 2 Children

McLean Stevenson, who played Lieutenant Colonel Henry Braymore Blake onM*A*S*H, had two children: son Jeffrey and daughter Lindsey.

Stevenson died in 1996 and was survived by his wife Ginny and his two children. He was 66.

Larry Linville's 1 Child

Linville played surgeon Major Frank Burns onM*A*S*H— but off screen, he was the proud dad to his daughter, Kelly.

The actor died in 2000 at age 60, perCNN.

"He was a wonderful man, a wonderful father, and certainly well prepared for the acting craft," costar Jamie Farr told the outlet at the time.

Gary Burghoff's 3 Children

Burghoff, who won the Emmy for Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Comedy Series in 1977 for his portrayal of Corporal Walter Eugene "Radar" O'Reilly onM*A*S*H, welcomed daughter Gena with his first wife in the 1970s.

He later welcomed sons Miles and Jordan with his second wife. After the couple split, Burghoff moved across the street from his estranged wife so they could co-parent their kids together, according to a2006 interview.

Mike Farrell's 2 Children

Farrell, who played Captain B.J. Hunnicutt onM*A*S*H, welcomed two children: son Michael and daughter Erin, which happened to the same names as Hunnicutt's daughter onM*A*S*H.

He has been married to wife Shelley Fabares since 1984.

Harry Morgan's 4 Children

Morgan, who won an Emmy for Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Comedy Series in 1980 for his portrayal of Colonel Sherman Potter onM*A*S*H, was a father of four.

PerThe New York Times, he shared all four of his children — sons Christopher, Charles, Paul and Daniel — with his first wife, Eileen Detchon, who died in 1985. One of those sons, Daniel, died in 1989.

"My dad would read a script the way somebody else would read TIME magazine and put it down and be on the set the next day," Morgan's son Charles, a lawyer, toldThe New York Timesof his father's photographic memory.

When Morgan died in 2011 at the age of 96, he was still married to his second wife, Barbara Bushman, whom he married in 1986, and was survived by his three living sons and several grandchildren.
