For some, getting into the Halloween spirit is an Olympic-level sport.

Such is the case for Los Angeles-based comedian Brittany Lee McDonald, who decided to ring in the holiday by dressing up in a different — slightly terrifying — costume every morning to wake up her boyfriend, comedian Michael Delisle.

On Saturday, Oct. 25, the duo shared the results of the hilarious five-day experiment on their joint TikTok @Official.HomeSweetHome, and the clip quickly went viral.

The video shows McDonald waking up Delisle in a variety of costumes each day, starting with a clown and moving onto well-known spooky characters like Frankenstein's monster, Edward Scissorhands, Edward Cullen from Twilight and Jigsaw from the Saw films.

The getups involved elaborate ensembles and full makeup, some of which McDonald tells PEOPLE took up to two hours to put together.

"We discovered that Brittany has a knack for impressions and putting together costumes out of things we have lying around the house," the couple shares. "You can make a lot of props out of aluminum foil."

McDonald's Halloween costumes were also created with household items, but she was up to the challenge. "Jigsaw's puppet from the movie Saw was one of the most complicated looks I've ever done," she explains. "It took me almost two hours — I was gluing cotton balls and tissue paper to my face!"

Delisle also confirms that Jigsaw was the most unpleasant to wake up to.

"She looked absolutely unhinged," he recalls. "Also, I wasn't a fan of waking up to Edward Scissorhands right in my face."

You'd think that Delisle would start to catch on to McDonald's schemes, but the comedian explains that every day is a new adventure with her. "To be honest, I never know what she's doing," he says. "Brittany is a wild card."

The couple, who have been dating for six years, met waiting in line for a comedy show and began performing together. When comedy theaters shut down during the COVID-19 pandemic, they shifted to making content online. Their social media handle, Home Sweet Home, was the title of the first sketch series they created together.

The "wake-up" videos started in 2021, when McDonald woke up Deslisle up as Jack Nicholson for a week.

"Since then we've been able to evolve and do different movie characters and musicians," the couple shares.

The time and energy spent on the costumed wake-up videos doesn't go unappreciated by their audience.

"Wait…so HOW EARLY ARE YOU UP to do this???" one user commented on TikTok.

"The Edward Cullen makeup was spot on," said another.

A third shared, "I can't. Every single one I cackled harder lmfao. You are incredible.""The comments are always hilarious on our videos," the couple says. "People on social media are really good at appreciating all the little nuances and random bits for costumes and how much goes into them."
