A woman is sharing how frustrated she is that her ex isn't stepping up for their daughter
She said her ex didn't get their daughter a present for her 16th birthday
She explained that after they separated when their daughter was 11, her ex moved across the country and married someone he met online
A woman is admitting she's frustrated that her ex didn't get their daughter a birthday present for her 16th birthday — and now, she's worried she's watching their relationship fade away.
The original poster (OP) shared their story on Reddit and explained that she and her ex separated when their daughter was 11. After they broke up, OP's ex moved across the country and married someone he met online. Now, they have three kids together, including one from the woman's previous relationship.
OP said that when she and her ex separated, he "cared for a few months" but then stopped texting unless it was a holiday. OP said her daughter never reaches out first and after she turned 13, she stopped wanting to visit her dad.

"She says she feels uncomfortable with the other kids, everyone is essentially a stranger and he doesn't spend any individual time with her," said OP.
For her daughter's birthday this year, OP sent a text to her ex with a recommendation for a present for their daughter. OP said her ex texted their daughter happy birthday and his wife texted her saying they sent gift cards, but said her daughter never received anything.
"This is the first year he has not gotten her anything for her birthday," said OP. "I'm really frustrated with this situation and just looking for advice on how to proceed."
She said she doesn't know if she should say anything to her ex in the future, because it feels like her ex doesn't care and neither does her daughter.
"It feels like I'm the only one that cares and is hurt about watching a father/daughter relationship become nonexistent," OP added.
In her comments, some told OP that there isn't much she can do to make the situation better other than support her daughter herself.

"What can you do, really. He's showing precisely how much he cares, and the damage this is doing to their relationship is his fault," they said. "She doesn't want to visit him, why would you push her to? It's not your job to pick up his slack in any way."
"Support her in making the visits as painless as possible (or stop them altogether if that is possible), support her if she's unhappy, but like... the ship on the 'father/daughter' bond has sailed, it seems like."
Another person suggested that OP talk to her daughter and reaffirm that she has OP for support.
"I would talk to your daughter. Reassure her that she's your number one and if she has any feelings about her father that she can talk to you about them whenever she wants and you will support her 100%," they said. "As for him, I would just leave it and not say anything. He's shown where his priorities are and he's the one who will miss out on the wonderful life of your daughter."
A third said to follow her daughter's lead and see what she wants to do.
"Follow your daughter's lead. If, for example, she genuinely wants to just not hear from him anymore (note: determining whether this is actually the case is beyond the scope of online advice from strangers) then don't push it on her," they said.
