Comedy and music icon Steve Martin just revealed an unexpected — and delightfully quirky — new project with Steven Tyler. The Only Murders in the Building star shared on Facebook that he's playing banjo on a new Aerosmith track.
"I'm playing banjo on a Steven Tyler song! Here's our text exchange for no particular reason," Martin wrote, posting both their back-and-forth and a snippet of the track, "My Only Angel (feat. Steve Martin)", which also features YUNGBLUD.
The song, part of Aerosmith's upcoming EP One More Time with YUNGBLUD (out November 21, 2025), has already hit No. 1 on the Hard Rock streaming charts.

The Text Exchange Fans Can't Stop Laughing At
In the post, Martin shared a screen grab of his messages with Tyler that reads like a comic sketch:
Tyler: "Steve…have you had a chance to…"Martin: "I have not gotten the song! I wrote you but didn't hear back. Oh, I think I mistyped a number. Can you send it now?"Tyler: "We did the same thing…sending again…right now… ST."Martin: "Made for each other."Tyler: "And then some…"Martin: "Still no song….. ah…got it. Hang on."Tyler: "Hip hip."
Later, Tyler texted,
"Steve… thank you soooo much for playing along with the song… we laid it in and WA LA… you made the acoustic version of the song so, so much better… Now that's something to talk about on Kimmel… so love your spirit… yess hahhhh!"

Fans Are Loving the Unexpected Duo
Fans flooded the comments section with delight at the musical pairing and the friendly banter between the two Steves.
"Can you imagine being the person who got the mistyped number and received a text from Steve Martin? Or Steven Tyler? 😂" one fan wrote.
"What?! Yes! I love it already and can only hear a few seconds. 🤘," added another.
"Your level of coolness rises! Please don't leave my airspace 😂," joked a third.
Others couldn't resist poking fun at the generational energy of the texts:
"This is the most baby boomer text thread I've ever read. 🤣♥️."
"And now…'Love in an Elevator' for banjo," quipped another.

A Legendary Comedian With Musical Chops
While Martin is best known for The Jerk, Planes, Trains and Automobiles, Parenthood, and Father of the Bride, his love of music — especially the banjo — has earned him serious acclaim. He's won three Grammys for music, including Best Bluegrass Album for The Crow: New Songs for the 5-String Banjo and Best American Roots Song for "Love Has Come for You."
Between his Emmy-nominated acting, 16 Saturday Night Live hosting gigs, and now a high-profile rock collaboration, Martin proves yet again that his range is as endless as his sense of humor.
