Sarah Jessica Parker is still hinting, though, that she hasn't said goodbye to Carrie Bradshaw forever

Sarah Jessica Parker isn't convinced that she's really said goodbye to Carrie Bradshaw.

It's been two months since And Just Like That... showrunner Michael Patrick King made the surprising announcement that the HBO revival series would end with season 3, but Parker, 60, still doesn't seem sure that the story is over.

During a Thursday, Oct. 2, appearance on CBS Mornings, the actress called it a "very difficult decision" to end the show, and when Gayle King said she "wasn't ready for Carrie Bradshaw to leave us," Parker was candid about her doubts that that's the case.

"I mean, I'm not certain I understand what that decision means, actually," she said of And Just Like That... ending. "Because I could just be on hiatus, you know."

Though she didn't reveal any more about what she meant by "hiatus," Parker elaborated on the "difficult decision" she and King made in ending the revival series.

"Michael and I talked a lot about it, and I think it's out of respect for this really singular professional experience that you have to consider what you want to do [and] have you done it," she said.

"And sometimes it's best to gracefully walk away when things feel really right and energetic, versus squeezing and exploiting people's generosity and hospitality."

Parker, who has been playing beloved Manhattanite Carrie Bradshaw since 1998, previously said that the role has been "such an extraordinary job, and you have to honor it," which played a role in the decision to end AJLT.

Responding to the question of why she would "stop doing something … that is successful in this moment," Parker said at a Threads Q&A in August, "It's because of the profound affection for the job and for the show."

"It's the respect and the affection that we feel for the experience in totality that leads you to a decision like this," she explained.

"Sometimes it seems an anathema to say, 'We're not going to do more.' But if you love something, you know where to leave it sometimes."

Like Parker, the team behind And Just Like That… have also teased the possibility of more story to come.

"She's alive, so it could happen," executive producer Elisa Zuritsky told TVLine when asked about the chances Carrie could return.

"Sarah Jessica Parker is Michael Patrick King's muse, and the reason he says 'I've said goodbye before and I've come back' is because it's true."

"I don't like to be too final about things, and life is long," Zuritsky continued. "I mean, we've all seen lots of things happen."
