Kim Petras told PEOPLE in an exclusive interview that she considers Tippi Hedren and an iconic cartoon character to be her fashion inspirations
The pop star's "obsession" with the actress began when she watched The Birds when she was "really young"
Petras recently released "I Like Ur Look" and an accompanying music video, which she styled herself for the first time
Kim Petras draws her style inspiration from all different places.
In an exclusive interview with PEOPLE at the InStyle Imagemaker Awards on Oct. 23, the pop star, 33, said her "number one icon" when it comes to fashion is an iconic actress.
"I've always had an obsession with Tippi Hedren and The Birds," Petras said, referring to Alfred Hitchcock's 1963 horror movie, which served as Hedren's film debut.
"I saw that movie really young, and she's wearing like, like, a minty green skirt suit, and, for some reason, that just pops into my mind."
As for another fashion icon in her book? Petras admitted, "Angelica from the Rugrats. You know, I love her."

Petras recently released her new song "I Like Ur Look" and an accompanying music video, in which she wears various Louis Vuitton looks.
"It was my first time styling my own music video, which was really exciting," the singer said. "I got all archival clothing, which was just fulfilling, and it was fully my vision for what felt kind of like the first time."

As for what her go-to fashion mantra is nowadays, the Grammy Award-winner believes it's all about trusting her instincts.
"Follow your gut, your, like, spontaneity," she told PEOPLE. "Like, if your body tells you, 'Oh, I feel insecure in this, or 'I feel like I'm too much,' trust it. Your body's right."
