Jim Carrey will soon be honored with France's highest honor for an actor.

Next year at the 51st César Awards, which recognize the top achievements in the French film industry, the legendary actor-comedian, 63, is set to receive the Honorary César Award for his contributions to film, according to the Academy of Cinema Arts and Techniques, or French Academy.

The ceremony, often considered France's equivalent to the Academy Awards, will take place on Feb. 27 in Paris.

After making a name for himself in stand-up comedy and on the small screen, perhaps most notably through his turn on In Living Color, Carrey went on to star in some of the most memorable films of the last 30 years, across genres.

He initially splashed onto the big screen by showing off his singular comedy skills in The Mask and Dumb and Dumber. "In these films he creates exuberant, unrestrained and unforgettable characters that have become a core part of popular culture," the French Academy said, per Variety.

But the star has also shown his ability to take a more dramatic turn with classics like The Truman Show, Man on the Moon and Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind. His performances as both the late Andy Kaufman and Truman Burbank earned him two Golden Globe awards.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, the French Academy describes the actor — whose other iconic films include Bruce Almighty and holiday staple How the Grinch Stole Christmas — as "one of the most original voices in modern cinema."

"His career is characterized by exceptional versatility: in film, he alternates between blockbusters and auteur films; on television, his moving and sensitive role in the Showtime series Kidding once again confirmed the breadth of his talent," the Academy said, per THR.

Outside of his work as an actor, the Academy continued, Carrey "was also the subject of the Emmy Award-nominated documentary Jim & Andy. He has also established himself as a New York Times bestselling author of his novel, Memoirs and Misinformation, and is internationally recognized as a visual artist, with several exhibitions and publications to his credit."

The actor's work "reminds us that cinema can be more than entertainment: it can question, move, and even enlighten; that creativity and art should not be limited to a single medium," the Academy said, per THR. "His career embodies a constant audacity, constantly pushing the boundaries of art and performance."

Recently, Carrey has taken a step back from acting, but returned to reprise his role as Dr. Ivo Robotnik in the ongoing Sonic franchise. He has also said that he'd be open to participating in sequels to The Mask or How the Grinch Stole Christmas.
