Fans were a little confused after leaving a concert for Brandy Norwood and Monica Arnold's The Boys Is Mine Tour this weekend without hearing the duo's 1998 classic.
The R&B singers were performing at Chicago's United Center on Saturday night when Brandy walked off stage in the middle of a song. In videos of the moment shared across social media, she appeared to be struggling with technical difficulties right before exiting. Some clips show her approaching the backstage sound booth.
"Give me one second, y'all," she says in fan-recorded footage. "I gotta get my…"
The Grammy winner then disappeared and never returned, leaving Monica to perform the next few songs in their set on her own. While previous shows have concluded with the duo's No. 1 duet, "The Boy Is Mine" (which they named the tour after), the Chicago crowd was sent home without hearing the closing number.

Fans reacted with concern and frustration in the aftermath of Saturday's performance, with one X user writing, "We're all in shock. How come Brandy left the stage halfway through the #theboyisminetour? No one knows what happened, but Monica had to close the concert alone and they didn't sing 'The Boy Is Mine.'"
Now Brandy has addressed her sudden exit in a statement shared with Entertainment Weekly.
"Thank you all for the overwhelming love, support, and — most importantly — your prayers," Brandy began. "I sincerely apologize for the abrupt end to last night's performance in Chicago. After weeks of nonstop rehearsals, last night I experienced dehydration and feelings of wanting to faint. Everyone involved agreed that prioritizing my well-being was of the utmost importance."
She explained that despite not feeling great, she decided to perform, with her team making some technical adjustments for her. "Unfortunately, it was impossible to fully connect sonically with the production," Brandy wrote. "I really appreciate everyone's best efforts. I'm deeply grateful to my sister, Monica, for stepping up with such grace and professionalism and the entire crew for their continued care and support."
Noting that she went straight "from the arena to see a doctor nearby," Brandy assured fans that she is taking precautions and will be back for the singers' Sunday night show in Indianapolis.
"I look forward to returning to the stage — stronger and more grateful than ever — alongside my girl, Monica, tonight in Indianapolis," she concluded in her statement.
Saturday's hiccup comes just three nights into the duo's reunion tour, which they kicked off more than 25 years after the release of their hit "The Boy Is Mine," which became a cultural phenomenon amid rumors of a feud between the singers.

Whispers of bad blood between Brandy and Monica circulated after the song hit airwaves, fueling speculation with its narrative about them fighting over a boy. The rumors reached a fever pitch after record producer Dallas Austin claimed that he saw Monica punch Brandy in the face backstage at an awards show before a performance of the single.
Brandy's brother, fellow artist Ray J, has also said that the feud was "100 percent real," claiming that being pitted against one another incited competitiveness between the two women. None of the hearsay stopped them from collaborating on the 2012 song "It All Belongs to Me," having their famous Verzuz battle in 2020, or embarking on their new tour.

Addressing the alleged tension between them in a joint interview with Gayle King in June, Monica said, "It started as nothing and it really did turn into something."
She added that they have since communicated directly because at the time, "there was a lot of confusion and conflict and there was a lot of people around."

Monica also slammed the music industry for pitting them against each other. "I was 18, she was 17 when we did the record," she said. "People forget that you're having this conversation about children, basically. You're inciting a riot amongst children! We were teenagers… We didn't really know each other."
For her part, Brandy quipped, "The song didn't help either. We were fighting over a boy."
The Boy Is Mine Tour is set to continue with Sunday's concert at Indianapolis' Gainbridge Fieldhouse.
