The 37-year-old Stafford visited back specialist Dr. Steven Watkins for a second time on Saturday. He remains "week-to-week" and received an epidural to aid in his recovery. Stafford has been held out of training camp after encountering back soreness during the offseason.

"He's making good progress, he feels good (and) we've been able to kind of increase some things behind the scenes," said Rams head coach Sean McVay, via The Athletic. "He's in good spirits. … We do have a good plan in place that we feel good about, and he's progressing in the right direction."

There were talks about Stafford exiting Los Angeles over the offseason, but he ended up agreeing to a contract restructure to remain with the team. He's entering his fifth season with the Rams, who won a Super Bowl in his first season in L.A. but have failed to advance past the divisional round since.

In Stafford's absence, Jimmy Garoppolo has taken first-team reps while former fourth-round pick Stetson Bennett has worked with the second team. The Rams are scheduled to open their season Sept. 7 against the Houston Texans.
