Jenny Han is sharing a new Easter egg that even the most eagle-eyed The Summer I Turned Pretty fans may have missed.

Recently speaking with Entertainment Weekly, Han — the original book series' author — revealed that a special yet hidden moment occurred in episode 5 of the show's third season.

"I do make a cameo in this episode," Han told the outlet. "It's just my voice. The reason why I'm even saying it now is because I don't think anyone's going to pick up on it, it's like the tiniest thing, but it made me laugh."

"This one's just a tiny little thing," she added, joking that she won't reveal exactly where her cameo falls in the episode.. "I don't think anyone's going to know it's me. It's almost impossible, honestly."

Han, who has also served as showrunner and director, has made an appearance on every season of The Summer I Turned Pretty. During the season 1 finale, she can be seen at the debutante ball, walking out of the liquor store in season 2.

Since the Prime Video series started airing in 2022, fans have become obsessed with pointing out tiny Easter eggs and hidden details — including information about who the leading lady might end up with in the end. Viewers have taken stock of everything from the colors each character wears and the lyrics of Taylor Swift songs featured on the soundtrack to posters on the characters' dorm room walls.

"People are always picking up on stuff," Han told the outlet. "There's definitely some that people have not picked up on, which I wouldn't discuss until after everything's out, and then you could look carefully for some of those little breadcrumbs."

However, Han also pointed out that certain theories take things too far.

"I saw something today that was not true," she said. "There's definitely intentional things, and then there's also things that were not [intentional]."

"I feel very flattered that people spend time thinking about what we made and giving it that level of attention and time in their own lives," Han continued. "It's a privilege that people care enough to come up with their own theories about things. People should be able to look at the work and come up with their own opinions on it that are separate from me, in terms of being the creator. Those [theories] are all valid, and whatever you take away is what you're taking away from it. So even if it may not have been intentional, I think that there's validity."

Adapted from Han's best-selling book trilogy, the series follows Isabel "Belly" Conklin (Lola Tung), who spends summers at the Fisher family's Cousins Beach house, where she finds herself torn between brothers Conrad (Christopher Briney) and Jeremiah (Gavin Casalegno). Since its premiere, the show has garnered a massive fan base and sparked passionate debate over one of television's most talked-about love triangles.

Although Han and the show have previously been careful not to give anything away by discussing the Easter eggs in detail before the show ends, she previously confirmed there is one major Easter egg viewers have apparently overlooked.

"There's one, but I can't say what it is," she said during a July 2025 appearance on Mamamia's The Spill, adding that many viewers have "already missed" the Easter egg.
