The Gilded Age has filled the summer with scandal, gossip and gorgeous gowns as the HBO historical drama returned for season 3.
The series, from creator Julian Fellowes, follows the families of New York high society in the 1880s, as they try to cement their place in the quickly changing world where old money and new money fight for power.
Now that The Gilded Age is back for a third round, viewers are "[diving] deeper into the characters and the relationships," as co-writer Sonja Warfield explained to The Wrap in June 2025.
"We're no longer establishing it. I always think of Season 3 of a series as getting to the juicy part," she added.
Fans can't wait to see what other drama is in store for the Russell and Van Rhijn-Brook households, but when does The Gilded Age air, and when is this season scheduled to end?

According to The Hollywood Reporter, the episode was the series' highest-rated premiere yet, with "2.7 million cross-platform viewers in the United States over three days." The outlet noted it was "more than 20 percent ahead of the season two premiere."

The Gilded Age season 3 will consist of eight episodes. Season 2 also had eight episodes, while the first season had nine.
Fellowes fills The Gilded Age with glitz and glamour, but "now this is the men and women dealing with how they feel about each other," he told The Wrap about season 3.
He continued, "We are, in a way, using this season to emphasize to the audience these are three-dimensional characters that have their own inner life."

As for what's coming up for The Gilded Age gang in the remaining episodes, in a June 2025 TV Insider interview, Warfield teased, "We knew where we wanted to go at the end of the season, and so then we reverse engineered it to build up to that."

Meanwhile, John "Jack" Trotter (Ben Ahlers) has made some cash with his clock invention, and George (Morgan Spector) and Martha Russell (Carrie Coon) are experiencing marital problems as they rise the ranks of New York high society.
"We really struggled a little bit with that. Morgan and I so appreciated the marriage that George and Bertha have," Coon told Collider in June 2025. "So to have that marriage be on the rocks the whole season was challenging for us — because we so love the scenes where we get to connect."
