Dylan Marlowe is clearing things up after posting a video on his social media pages that showed him getting"kicked out" of a music festival that included him on the bill.
Over the weekend, the country artist treated fans to his live set at Country Jam in Eau Claire, Wisconsin. But things took an awkward turn after, when he was escorted away by a security guard while trying to view Jake Owen's show from a select front-of-house spot.
"Getting kicked out of a concert I just played," Marlow captioned a video on Saturday (July 19) that showed the moment in action, but has since been scrubbed from all of his social media pages. "Got kicked out of our concert trying to watch Jake Owen. Good job, dude. I'm a huge threat."
In that since-deleted video, Marlowe could be seen being led through the festival crowd while security kept a tight grip on his shirt. Toward the end of the taken-down clip, Owen could be heard yelling the words, "That's Dylan Marlowe," over the microphone.
On Sunday afternoon (July 20), after removing the original clip, Marlowe took to TikTok again, this time, sharing a "storytime" that addressed the situation further. While providing fans with details about how the situation unfolded, Marlowe made a point to say that he chose to delete the video because he felt like "it wasn't fair" for that festival to have this video blowing up about their festival when it was just on" when it was just "one bad apple in the whole thing."
"I just want to hop on here and kinda clear the air a little bit of what I posted yesterday," the 28-year-old "Boys Back Home" singer began. "I took the video down after sleeping on it and watching church this morning. I just decided that it wasn't fair for that festival to have this video blowing up about their festival when it was really just one bad apple in the whole thing."
Marlowe went on to give some backstory about how he ended up getting removed from the grounds in the first place. He told followers that he and a buddy named Dave, who had two sets of passes ("All Access" and "Artist Credentials" passes), had been "watching Jake [Owen's] set, trying to stay out of the way" from the top of a front of house tower for about 10 minutes when they were approached by security.
"This dude comes up and says we can't be there," Marlowe explained, adding that everyone was, at first, being polite with one another. "We were like, 'Hey. We have All Access wristbands given to our tour manager for us to wear to be anywhere we want to be… That's what we were told…So we had two different credentials. We're like, 'Hey. We have these. We're good.' He was like, 'No. I don't care. So and so said you can't be up here."
Marlowe said the security guard suggested he and Dave watch the show from the pit, but reasoned, "If we go into the pit during the middle of the day, it's probably going to cause a little bit of a scene because we had just gotten off the stage and were wearing the same clothes. The last thing I want to do is make a scene during Jake Owen's set because that, to me, is disrespectful."
Marlowe and Dave, then, moved to a different, lower location, to which they were told to leave by the same security guy. Marlowe also revealed that he and Dave were then removed by police officers at the request of the security personnel.
"We walk downstairs to where this guy continues to say, 'Hey, you gotta get the F out of here. You gotta get the F outta here. You're not allowed to be down here either," Marlowe explained. "We had these passes, and we knew we were allowed to be there. These cops came up and I was like, 'Oh God.' So we talk to these cops and we're like, 'Hey guys. We had these passes. Not sure what the confusion is because we were told these are 'All Access' passes. We're just trying to watch the set,' to where the cops responded, 'This security is our boss and he's telling us to get ya'll out of here.'"
Marlowe said that's when he became "rude back to the guy."
"I'm not going to paint it like I was this perfectly great dude who wasn't rude back to him after he was rude to me," Marlowe said. "After that, there were definitely a few heated words exchanged with that guy, nothing crazy, but I feel like he was rude to me and I was rude back to him, and I shouldn't have been… so I just wanted to clear things up. That's where he grabbed my shirt, yanked me out, just wanted to clear the air a little bit to say to the festival, there's no hard feelings. We had a great time. To that dude, I forgive you. That's pretty much all I have to say."
Marlowe also said that he initially posted the since-deleted video in "frustration," adding that "I don't think it was from a pride or ego standpoint. I don't expect this dude or anybody to ever know who I am…I'm just a person who does this for a living. I think what was frustrating to me is that we had the 'All Access' credentials on and still got kicked out. But I took the video down. I'll probably leave it down."
Marlowe's hour-long set at Country Jam ran from 3:30-4:30 p.m. on Saturday (July 19). Other artists scheduled to perform included Tigirlily Gold, Craig Morgan, and Sam Hunt.
