Brighton booked their place in the quarter-finals of the FA Cup thanks to Danny Welbeck's strike late in extra-time. Newcastle took the lead through Alexander Isak's 22nd minute penalty after Tino Livramento was brought down by Yankuba Minteh. The Gambian winger made amends for his mistake as he drew the visitors level with help of a deflection by Kieran Trippier a minute before the break. Eddie Howe's men were reduced to 10-men in the 83rd minute after Anthony Gordon's was shown a straight red for raising his hand and shoving Jan Paul van Hecke to the ground.
