When I learned that HBO Max had up and canceled And Just Like That… , the first three words out of my mouth were: "Oh, thank God!"

I'm not joking. My heart was flooded with an incredible sense of relief. It was one of those hushed, lark-who-is-learning-pray moments — the sort you experience when you've been freed of a burden of suffering you've carried for a long, long time. Three seasons, to be specific. Finally (I continued, speaking to myself in an odd, elated daze), Sarah Jessica Parker's Sex and the City spinoff was going to be put out of its misery — and, perhaps more to the point, I'd be put out of my misery, too. I'd no longer have to think about it. A win-win, in short.

This may sound ridiculous, but it's true: I always found watching And Just Like That... stressful. Parker and a small army of smart, talented people seemed to be perpetually struggling to make And Just Like That... good — instead of just good enough. Why couldn't they get the thing to work? That hadn't been the case with Sex and the City, which was like a magically replenishing cosmo that you could sip year after year. And Just Like That... never went down with that bracing smoothness. Imagine that you're sitting at a bar, open to whatever adventure the night may bring you, and a wonderful-looking stranger across the room starts flirting with you, sending over odd, fussed-over drinks — a paprikatini, maybe.

Of course, there was still the series' finale to look forward to and consider — at least that might leave audiences with a blissful, parting image of Parker's Carrie Bradshaw. Would that image be soft and romantic or possibly bittersweet? Parker is such an appealing actress, with her winsomely chic tristesse, that I was prepared to like just about any conclusion. After all, it wasn't as if Carrie would throw away her fabled Jimmy Choos, put on some Red Wing boots and find work as a lumberjack, the way Dexter Morgan did at the end of his original Showtime series.

I'm happy to report that Parker's closing scenes were lovely — there she was at a runway show of bridal gowns, looking wistful and somewhat ashen as she doubtless reflected on what Joni Mitchell has called "the ceremony of the bells and lace." And there she was, dancing around her oversized Gramercy Park home, alone, content that she might never find Mr. Right or even Mr. Wrong. The scene momentarily made me think of Barry Keoghan at the end of Saltburn, prancing naked around his manor with Sophie Ellis-Bextor's "Murder on the Dancefloor" blaring on the soundtrack. But I blame that on Keoghan, not Parker, who was exquisite.

But her grace notes weren't enough. What I wanted, really — all that I wanted and, I suppose, needed — was something to banish the show's many peculiar lapses (including this season's masturbating puppeteer) from memory. But no: With 15 minutes or so to go, the show delivered an unforgettably, unforgivably gross plumbing mishap at Miranda's Thanksgiving dinner. This, believe it or not, built on another tasteless joke that came shortly before, when a random dinner guest complained about the nasty intestinal kick of the evening's cheese selection.

I suppose you could say I still feel relief, now that I've waded through the sewage of the finale, but it's more like the kind of relief you'd associate with a laxative. Is that a cheap shot? Yes, I suppose it is, but no more vulgar than And Just Like That... last night.

Sarah Jessica Parker as Carrie in season 3 of 'And Just Like That...'.

It should be noted that Kim Cattrall's Samantha didn't appear in the finale, although the actress's irresistible camp spirit had haunted the series from the start. That would have made a daringly memorable conclusion: The ladies sitting around a table, Sopranos-style, anxiously wondering if Samantha had put a hit on them. Given all the fuss, you wonder why the show's production team couldn't have just recast the role. Did anyone reach out to Revenge's Madeleine Stowe? Or, going out on a limb, what about Judge Jeanine Pirro? She's busy now, but then?

The show was, at best, a noble defeat for its thoughtful, glamorous, hard-working star. To quote a line from Carrie Bradshaw's novel-in-progress: "She had done all she could." Only it wasn't enough.

And Just Like That... is streaming in full on HBO Max. Additionally, Sex and the City and its two film installments can also be viewed on the streamer.

LONDON (Reuters) -Shein's British business made 2.05 billion pounds ($2.77 billion) in sales in 2024, a 32.3% increase from the previous year, a filing by the online fast-fashion retailer showed early on Friday.

Shein does not report global results publicly, but the filing sheds light on its growth in Britain, its third-biggest market after the United States and Germany, as the company works toward an initial public offering in Hong Kong.

Founded in China and headquartered in Singapore, Shein has spent years attempting to list, first in New York and then in London, but faced criticism from U.S. and UK politicians and failed to get approval from China's securities regulator for the offshore IPO at a time of increasing tensions between China and the U.S.

The global retailer's UK business, Shein Distribution UK Ltd, reported a pretax profit of 38.25 million pounds in 2024, up 56.6% from 24.4 million pounds in 2023.

In the filing, Shein highlighted 2024 milestones, such as a pop-up shop in Liverpool, a Christmas bus tour across 12 UK cities and the opening of two new offices in Kings Cross and Manchester.

Known for deeply discounted prices, Shein runs constant promotions and offers coupons or rewards that encourage shoppers to keep buying. Shein has taken market share from retailers like ASOS and H&M as surging inflation dented consumers' spending power, driving them to hunt for bargains.

Shein has also broadened its offering beyond fashion — the UK site sells 7.99-pound ($10.84) dresses and 15-pound ($20.36) jeans, as well as everything from toys and craft supplies to storage units.

Shein's business has benefited from customs duty exemptions on low-value e-commerce packages that allow it to send goods directly from factories in China to shoppers' doorsteps largely tariff-free.

But that perk is on its way out, driving Shein's costs — and prices — up, particularly in the U.S., where imports from China are now subject to steep tariffs.

U.S. President Donald Trump's administration has scrapped its "de minimis" exemption for parcels under $800, and the European Union plans to remove its equivalent duty waiver on e-commerce parcels worth less than 150 euros.

Britain is also reviewing its policy on low-value imports after retailers said it was giving online players like Shein and Temu an unfair advantage.

Following Taylor Swift's headline-making appearance on the New Heights podcast, attention has shifted to Travis Kelce as the NFL star prepares for his next big game.

Ahead of the Kansas City Chiefs' game against the Seattle Seahawks tomorrow, the team flew to Seattle to play at Lumen Field as part of Preseason Week 2 of the 2025 season.

The veteran tight end made sure to touch down in style when he donned a designer look.

As he stepped off the plane, the 35-year-old player exuded major confidence and effortless style, sporting an earth-toned ensemble.

Kelce's outfit featured a Blason Rugby Polo Shirt in green and ochre, retailing for $1,700, which he paired with $1,250 beige pleated trousers, both from Celine.

The three-time Super Bowl champion accessorized with white sneakers and a white cap while completing the look with a brown Bottega Veneta large Intrecciato Duffle, which costs $6,400.

For this look, the NFL star's outfit came with a hefty price tag, retailing for an impressive $9,350.

Kelce's upcoming game comes after he and his pop star girlfriend broke the internet with her surprise appearance on his podcast, which he co-hosts along with his brother Jason Kelce.

On Wednesday, Swift's podcast debut sent fans into a frenzy after she dropped major details and gave Swifties a first look at her 12th studio album, The Life of a Showgirl.

Besides the exclusive preview of what's to come on her soon-to-be-released project, the music sensation also opened up about her career moves, including the rights to her master recordings and a rare glimpse into her romance with the Chiefs star.

In one of her revelations, the pop star mentioned what they talked about during their first date.

"I legitimately asked him what it was like when the Chiefs played the Eagles in the Super Bowl and he looked across the field," she said, adding, "and saw his brother standing five feet away."

After realizing that it was an "insane question" to ask, the younger Kelce playfully explained the basics of the game, which led her to develop a genuine passion for the sport.
